Sorry to jump in here... I only recently started using and reading this
newsgroup.  It seemed like there were quite a lot of GMs mentioning new games
and suchlike and I thought that was quite neat.  I mentioned our new game,
Dungeon, and got 24 new players from the mention.  So, obviously some people
who read the list *do* use the 'adverts' placed and the advertising does work.

As a player as well as a GM I've always found 'tastefully' done 'blurbs' (not
out and out adverts) to make useful and fun reading in a newsgroup.

When I plugged Dungeon I did not, at that point, know advertising wasn'twanted
be the person who ran this site.  Now I do, I won't do it again.  Seems a shame
though.  All the comments I got were positive, and nobody 'flamed' me at all.

Perhaps you're not as 'in touch' with what people want as you think?  This
isn't meant to be inflammatory.  Just an observation which you can take or
leave as you will.  Life's too short to argue about such silly things and if
the person who owns the list says no, then Its got to be 'no' really.
