SGML anyone?  The reson I Suggest this is that conversion tools from
SGML to other formats are now readily available so you don't have to do
the development work associated with developing these types of tools for
yourself.

For turn input you should give careful consideration to the syntax and
semantics that you intend to use.  IMHO it can be constructive to have
at least a hint of an understanding of computer language design.  I
don't mean that you have to understand the full intracacies of language
design, but a fleeting knowledge of the pitfalls can be enough to keep
you sane when you get to the implementation.

Indeed it is, and after all, you're going to have to implement these
whether you want to implement them as a library or not, so the library
isn't going to be too much extra work if any.
