Personally, I'd rather shop at a fairly light shop which looks open,
rather than in a dark, "atmospheric" shop.  Judging by the recent
performance of our shop, since adding new lights and making better
use of window displays, I'm not the only person to think this.

Mind you, I do like to find a shop where I can rummage around in its
"hidden depths".

So, extending the parallel, how about a light, airy and spacious
website, with a lot to find just below the surface...?
