For a long time, I thought every game had to have that quality, else it
wouldn't be worth playing. But I was just talking to a long-time OTD
player who tells me it's still going strong, though far more automated
than when I played it from '87-'94.

I have the same sorts of memories of it, BTW. The apparent limits of
closed-ended games make even long-term ones like Eldritch seem somewhat
suspect to me, even though it's a game I really have enjoyed and hope to
play again.
