Junk mail/ phone calls [was: Re: QUEST ONLINE]

Hi There,

This has nothing to do with the discussion, per se, but here's some
useful advice for people with the following problem...

1) Register your address with the Mail Preference Service. Write to
them at Freepost 22, London W1E 7EZ

2) Register your phone number with the Telephone Preference Service on
(0845) 070 0707 (I think there's also a Fax Preference Service for
junk faxes, but I don't know the number. Try Directory Enquiries)

If you're registered with these services and companies persist in
contacting you anyway they can be fined up to, I believe, �4000.

3) You can also get 141 blocking which will stop anyone from phoning
you if they use 141 to withold their number so you can't do 1471,
contact your local phone operator.

(Although note that some companies who have internal switchboards will
automatically withold their switchboard number which may cause
problems, but you can turn the blocking facility off and on at will)

I'm with all of the above and the amount of junk mail  I've got since
doing so has dropped to virtually nil and junk phone calls have ceased
completely!
