I was talking about magellan being used under linux. There are a couple of
people who (justifiably) have issues with the form of license sun puts their
VM under (e.g. afaik you are not allowed to redistribute a java VM without
limitations. that's why it's not on the debian distros).

it's pretty slow under linux compared to the windows VM. make sure you get a
1.3 version, and I think you'll be happier with the IBM VM than with Sun.
Sun doesn't really like linux, I think, and they see their business partners
running windows mostly. It's not a big surprise that it's faster on MS'
systems.
It runs okay on a P166. Not great, but okay. I have 96M of Ram, which
certainly helps.
