Paris celebrated the restoration of the French Empire. ``With
Belgium and Naples conquered, Frenchmen everywhere expect
all of Napoleon's domain to soon come under French rule.  Only
Holland remains to be conquered.  With Russia destroyed and
with Prussia and England at war, all of Bonaparte's enemies
are scattered.  This time, nothing will stop us from ruling Europe!''
So declared Napoleon XIV, descendant of the late Emperor.
He then added, ``They're coming to take me away, ha ha, hee hee,
ho ho, to the funny farm, where life is beautiful all the time,
and I'll be happy to see those nice young men in their clean white
coats and they're coming to take me away!''

Baghdad, August 2 -- The winner of the VILE award is, once again,
GERMANY!  The Kaiser, who once again has set the standard for those who
wish to fight much and accomplish little, is invited to review our
troops as they embark for training in the Kuwaiti desert.
Honorable mention goes to second-place France, the only country
never to win the award.  Keep up the effort....you'll get it sooner
or later!

Berlin, Jan 01, 1906 -- Kaiser Ludwig von Beetlejuice, in a brief moment
of lucidity, was informed of the recent military results, and then
insisted that the MESSENGERS were being delirious.  It took some time
to convince him that this was not the case.  The Kaiser thanked his
Admirable Ally Austria for keeping the French out of Munich, and his
Fickle Friend France for keeping the Austrians out of Munich.
"We bear no will towards either country for their moves, which were
understandable.  They were thirsty, that's all."  To prevent trouble
next year, however, the Kaiser announced the creation of a new
Bavarian Beer Belly Brigade to police next year's Oktoberfest.
He also sent several cases of Oktoberfest beer to Vienna and Paris to
slake the thirst of the monarchs there.

Copenhagen, December 23, 1905 -- Although Germany has reestablished
control of Denmark, there is no talk of resuming the Pastry Embargo,
as the English seem to have already eaten everything. :-(

Baghdad -- We note with great sorrow the passing of Italy, who wielded
his knife with bloody abandon.  We offer the deposed ruler the
Governorship of the Province of Basra as a consolation.

The winner of the Fall 1905 VILE award is, for the third time in
a row.....................................GERMANY!
We are not at all surprised that the Kaiser could spill so much
blood.  What surprises us is that he did it so effectively!
Has he abandoned the bludgeon for the scalpel?  Tune in next turn...

Berlin, Aug 1. -- Kaiser Ludwig von Beetlejuice insists that
Scandinavia must be united under a single Power.  "It's just
getting too confusing trying to figure out who owns what."

Baghdad, Aug 2. -- After much discussion, the Violence Institute of the
Lower Euphrates (VILE) has awarded its coveted "Barbarian of the Month"
award to Germany, for the fourth consecutive time (yawn).  In a
disturbingly quiet season, Germany edged out Albania, which,
although overrun by Turkey, had at least managed some vitriolic
anti-American rhetoric.  The other Great Powers were hardly in the
running.  As a VILE spokesman  put it,

"This season was PATHETIC.  Only 6 attacks, with only 1 piece dislodged.
The Franco-Austrian and Franco-Turkish borders are quiet,
the Franco-German and Austro-German borders are deserted,
the English and French are just showing "instant replays" of
their standoff, the Austrians and Turks are going nowhere, and
the English and Germans just play musical supply centers.  It's
enough to make a psychopath cry.  Next time show us some BLOOD!"

************ Kaiser Declares Conquests Nearly Complete *************

Berlin, Feb. 14.  In his annual Valentine's Day "Peace and Love"
address, Kaiser Ludwig for the first time put limits on Germany's
territorial claims.  "On the European Continent, the German Sphere
of Influence includes all the pre-war territories of the German Empire,
the Russian Empire, Scandinavia, and Holland.  That is all.  Once we
evict the Turks from the Ukraine our mission will be complete and
we will be happy to discuss a permanent peace with the other
European Powers.  We encourage those powers, who we consider our allies,
to hurry up and finish their own conquests.  In particular, we are
SICK of winning the VILE award.  Would somebody else please overrun
a few supply centers and claim it??"  The Kaiser said nothing
about territory beyond the continent of Europe.

BAGHDAD, DEC. 31.  The Violence Institute of the Lower Euphrates has
decided to change the rules on its award, rather than give
the award to Germany for the seventh straight time.  "We considered
changing the scoring to points PER UNIT to give the smaller powers a
chance, but Germany would have won anyway.  So we just disqualified
Germany."  This turn's Barbarian of the Month is........TURKEY!
We congratulate Turkey for launching no less than 3 unsuccessful attacks,
while leaving its back door open.
