Your base chance is what counts.  This is even the case when you
can't *see* your base chance.  For instance, if I raise my PC from
5 to 15 by equipping an item, or by acquiring a status, my printout
will show my PC as 15 {15}, but my chance of practicing it will be
based on a PC of 5.

Normally, bless spells work on whatever your printout shows as
your base level.  In my example above, for instance, you'd go
from a PC of 15 {15} to one of {30}, not {20}.  The rulebook says
that charms of battle and leadership add to your base level,
so I'd guess it'd work that way for them too.  I just tried to
add a bless to a charm of *influence*, though, and for that, the
charm was added *after* the bless.

The advantages of good starting spells may outweigh the advantages of
seers crystals -- particularly since it may take much longer than you
expect to get the cinderoak for the crystals and to get the spells from
those other arcane disciplines.  So Seer-vs-Summoner/Druid is a decision
based on your specific setup, prearranged alliances, etc.  The skills
that were listed as 'to avoid' may be optimal in specialized cases.
For instance, I'm playing a hero thief who started with level-3 illusionist,
just so that he could cast Invisibility Self from the start.  Once
a seer *does* have two seers crystals and the outside spells, six free
points for any spell and nine free points for seer spells becomes an
overwhelming advantage.

Put it another way:  In the first part of the game, you're best off
with whatever will give you the spells you need.  In the middle of the
game, spells are no problem, and you're better off with whatever will
give you the best bonuses.  Towards the end of the game being fortieth
or fiftieth level (or the item-enhanced equivalent) counts for a lot
more than whether you're a seer or a warlock.
