Have you considered explaining the problem to him, refraining from blowing
him away and earning his eternal gratitude?  Are you _that_ much better off
owning his capital than you would be if you had him for an ally?  I don't
mind taking someone out because of a strategic error, but nailing someone
in his first game for ignorance of the rules on turn five seems a bit harsh.
