I did not find any explanation in this code how to zoom into an area
with this code. However, if you know Gnuplot you'll find it is not too
difficult. The first few lines of galaxy_map look like this:

set nokey
set parametric
c1(x1,t) = x1+20*sin(t)
c2(x2,t) = 80-x2+20*cos(t)
set xrange[0.000000:80.000000]
set yrange[0.000000:80.000000]

You can now change the size of the circle by changing the number 20 in
the formuli for c1 and c2 to some other number, and you can zoom in by
changing the range. E.g.

set xrange[10:50]
Set yrange[30:70]

plots the area (10/10) to (50/50). You have to do a little bit of math
in the y direction because the gnuplot coordinates are actually
inverses of the galaxy coordinates, so you have to set the y coords in
gnuplot to (ymax -y) as you see in the c2 equation. You specify ymax
when running makemap.

If you go through the help files in gnuplot, you'll find that you can
save files in lots of different formats, including postscript and
encapsulated postscript.
