Never played A2, but A3 is great, no question.  Brand new world,
everything to play for.

At the same time using gatemastery you can get a LONG way from other
players, and the underworld appears almost empty at present, and may
lack the resources for conventional armies, needing heavy combat mages
to be succesful.

This is a truely well designed game with lots of oportunies for
different types of player.
