Ok, Ill give that a shot, but I bet it still sounds like plugging a game!
Ive been a S3 player for almost 2 years now, and before I started it, I
had played everything from muds, to Neverwinter nights, to PBEM RPG's of
all types.  S3 is one of the best games Ive ever played, and the only way
I found it was by getting a book called NetGames and seeing it listed
there.
I play a Bastian in 2607 but I just started playtesting the new TF-X which
is sorta like Sliders, Quantum Leap, and Time Cop all rolled into one.  Id
tell you where and when I am, but I havnt got that part figured out yet.
The GMs that Ive tried are all wonderful, and very attentive to my
character.  The few times that there have been late moves, there was a
note telling me that Id get credit.
I even get to play a Bastian, which is sorta a cat person, and that's a
character I can get into!
