Who owns a character? From: mlwilliams <mwilliams@signal.dera.gov.uk> Date: Wed, 19 Aug 1998 00:00:00 +0000 This question came up on the Saturnalia-multi recently and I thought I'd open it up to a wider audience. The question concerned another PBM and was basically this: The GM had demanded the player send in a turn by a certain date or he would NPC him (although there were no other players involved with the character). The player has given thought to trying to get another GM to accept his character in another game (there's a can of worms in itself!). The player was unhappy with the idea that against his will 'his' character would continue to stride the world of 'Whatever' at the GM's whim. He saw the character as his own creation and objected to the GM using it against his will.... To give weight to his argument he said that the GM would probably object if he were to write a novel based on his adventures in the PBM and make money out of it, so why shouldn't he have 'rights' over his character.
