-- New Galaxy (Test) Game Starting -- From: slothoub@cs.utwente.nl (Frans Slothouber) Date: Fri, 28 Aug 1998 00:00:00 +0000 Greetings, This is a call for help as well as a call for players. A new release of GalaxyNG has been finished and I want to run a test game to check the server for bugs before it is released upon the unsuspecting public :) The game will be called Pilot. It will run for 3 turns for the first 15 turns and then slow down to 2 turns per week. I aim for 20 or more players. It will be a normal game and winners will be entered in the Hall of Fame. There might be an occasional bug, but I expect them to be minimal as the code has been tested with data from old games already. So if you want to help test the newest release join the game by sending an email to galaxyng@wit393403.student.utwente.nl with as subject Join Pilot You will receive a confirmation within minutes. The game will start as soon as there are enough players. The features of the new release: o A donut shaped galaxy developed by Tommy Lindqvist Already used in the game Testzone, you can have a look at it at: http://gumpu.student.utwente.nl/~galaxyng/Testzone/map.gif (It is still possible to use the normal format) o A new option to get reports in Galaxy Plus (G+) format. This format allows you to use the program GV, which is a very excellent turn viewer mostly used in Russia. See also project TIGER http://gumpu.student.utwente.nl/~galaxyng/Tiger/index.html o A option to receive an additional report in a machine readable form. Developed by Christophe Barbier. This will make it much easier to develop new galaxy tools. o Forecast includes a section on the status of your nation (new tech levels, pop, industry etc) o New rules for inactive players. During the first 10 turn if players are inactive for more then 3 turns, their nation, planet, and groups are removed. During the following turns, the computer will take over the position of dead players.
