You'll need to install and configure mIRC first, go directly to the mIRC software homepage http://www.mirc.co.uk/ and get the shareware downloaded. 2. If you have never downloaded software before or just want to make sure you do this one right, click Instructions for Net Newbies and Download Dummies. 3. If you are completely confident in your ability to do the download, click Download the latest mIRC, IRC Intro or FAQ. 4. Select the mIRC software that is specifically for your PC. There is a 32 bit version forWindows 95 and Windows NT. There is another version for Windows 3.x. Also select the download site that is nearest your location. The download will begin immediately. 5. The software is self-extracting and self-installing. Simply follow the instructions in the dialog boxes that appear after the dialog appears. 6. After mIRC is installed, start mIRC, a mIRC window will appear. On top of the window will be a dialog box with the picture of the author. This asks you to register and pay (we deal with that later). Close that dialog box. 7. The next dialog box that pops up is Setup. Click the server tab and choose "Random EFnet Server", (If you make any other choice, you will go off into another world of servers when you try to connect and you won't find us.) 8. In the setup dialog box you have to enter some information: Full Name (or as full as you want it to be), E-Mail address (e.g. LakeLady@Manitoba.Fish.Com),Nickname (the "handle" you want to use in the chat sessions), and Alternative (in case your primary nickname is in use when you join the session). 9. Close the setup dialog box. 10. On the extreme left of the Toolbar there is an icon of a lightning bolt. Click that to be connected to an EFnet server. 11. The mIRC Channels Folder dialog box appears. On the left side is a scroll box with the names of a multitude of EFnet channels. Scroll down that list until you come to #VGAPLANETS. Highlight the words #VGAPLANETS and click on the join button. 12. A new window will appear with the title #VGAPLANETS. A message should appear in the bottom of the window that says *** Now talking in #VGAPLANETS.On the right side you will see the nicknames of other participants. 13. If there is a session in progress, the other participants will see a message telling them that (nickname) has joined #VGAPLANETS. 14. To converse, move your cursor to the single line at the bottom of the window. Type in: Hi everybody. The screen will show: (nickname) Hi everybody. 15. Should you inadvertently get disconnected there is an Icon (fourth from the left on the tool bar) that looks vaguely like a Windows 95 folder icon - it is marked with #+. This is the Channels Folder icon. Click on it and do the same things as in 11 above. 16. To exit, simply click to Close Window X in the upper right hand corner. 17. If you are satisfied and want to continue using mIRC, follow this instruction: 18. The next time you use it, and you see the author's picture come up,please register and pay the man. :=) After you enter the channel, you'll get a notice from one of the Autobots ..simply do !signup.
