Invitation: Battle PBEM players From: Christopher Shaffer <shaffer@uic.edu> Date: Mon, 07 Sep 1998 00:00:00 +0000 Battle is an abstract 3D hex-board game. Each player starts with a base that produces ten power points each turn. It costs five power points to build a unit, but power must also be spent on unit attributes and research to enable the future abilities of moving and fighting units. Gradually, as more research levels are achieved, units will then be capable of flight, tunneling, converting enemy units.... Players email orders to the GM who then adjudicates the turn and makes the status file and a map available via the web. Battle is an established game that has been running at <http://battle.ecafe.org/> for 33 games and recently moved to <http://battle.pbem.net/>. Each game takes anywhere from 25 to 50 turns, usually at one turn per week. The game must be stopped to replace dormant positions so all players are expected to play to the bitter end. You are invited to play in Training Exercises, a teaching game intended specifically for new players. Battle is moderately complex, and players spend anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 hours writing orders each turn. For more information, see <http://www.uic.edu/~shaffer/battle/te/>. To sign up or ask questions, send email to <shaffer@uic.edu>. French language players should refer to <http://www1.cediti.be/~xb/battle/> where a new game is starting. Good gaming. ----- I'm going to be dead for billions and billions of years. If I don't make a fool of myself on a regular basis, I'll feel like I've wasted my life.
