[PBEM News] Marooned in Space From: sharlene79@mindspring-dot-com.no-spam.invalid (sharlene79) Date: Fri, 09 Nov 2007 03:46:01 +0000 Hyperspace travel is generally safe. But a faulty drive or a hazardous region of space can change all that. Why is that? With all the redundancies of star drive safety systems how can a major malfunction occur? How can a region be truly hazardous when hyperspace should bypass the physics of such a location completely? And yet such events do happen with too great a frequency to be explained? Stories of hyperspace events usually center on maelstroms or Bermuda Triangle like locations. A ship under attack takes a fateful shortcut to evade pursuit. A scientific space explorer delves too far into an uncharted region. Neither ship is ever seen nor heard from again Your ship was a victim of just such a hyperspace accident. One moment everything was normal; the next you were running for the life pods. And the next you found yourself marooned on a strange and probably uncharted planet with nothing but the resources of your life pod. This is a game of survival, exploration, and discovery. There WILL be GM-guided adventures, the players being the heroes of the story. Characters should be submitted as normal humans, with appearance, career interests, hobbies, demeanors, motivations, and backgrounds a well-rounded persona. A military of space explorer background is recommended. Engineering, scientific, or technical skills are recommended. Psionics ARE permitted. You will be from a fairly advanced space era. The source genre is comparable to Star Trek minus transporters, time travel, Genesis effects, etc. Personal stowage in passenger quarters is typically about 25 kg. As youll have been running for the lifepods, dont try to bring along more than you could grab and run with. A Character Generation Template can be provided as a guide for statistics and skills if needed. These are only used to give a picture of what the character can reasonably do. GURPS 3e will work if you want a skill list. There isnt going to be any dice rolling though. This will be a GM moderated adventure. Players should be able to post 3 to 5 times a week, with average lengths of posts not less than a few good paragraphs. The game is rated Mature (strong R), with military violence, alien horror, adult language and situations. No children please. The first time you email me you will receive a spam blocker auto reply.
