This seems to suggest that your rejoinders were not written well
enough to be identified as such by all readers and thus may constitute bad
writing style.  I say this without sarcasm, smileys, intent to insult or
intent to troll for a response but perhaps with a little irony.

It is my opinion and practice that if I feel slighted by someone
else's posting or if I am not sure how something is meant, I usually e-mail
them directly and ask if they meant to be insulting to me in particular or if
I have misinterpreted them entirely.  If I am sure that they are insulting me
specifically, I _always_ e-mail them personally to ask if they meant to be
insulting.  This occurs prior to my return shot for offenses, either real or
imagined.  Then again, as you say, this is Usenet!
