I think that Ben meant that PBEM diplomacy would save the PBM
Diplomacy hobby, not PBM in general.  I agree with Steve though when he
says that PBM in general does not need saving.  It seems to be more
popular with my gaming friends then it did when I first began playing in
the eighties.

I am rolling about chuckling myself though at Ben's suggestion
that there is any kind of consensus in the Diplomacy world about
anything!  :^)  Please do not bring that up on rec.gmaes.diplomacy Ben, I
have too much to read as it is!

As far as moving to PBM Dip after reaching a certain level of
skill, I think that many PBEM Dippers will opt instead for playing games
with other good players who have been encountered or association with
groups such as the Vermont group for judge Diplomacy or the Academy for
the CAT 23 Diplomacy group.  These groups offer games for players of
proven dedication to the game, very high standards of dependability as far
as getting turns in and unfortunately a high degree of skill at the game
itself, thus ensuring that I will not be joining for some time to come, if
ever!
