I recant. The Game Of Immortals IS OPEN!!! From: "Brandon Van Every" <vanevery@earthlink.net> Date: Mon, 19 Oct 1998 00:00:00 +0000 I've recanted. The Game Of Immortals is OPEN!!! Yes we're going to play after all. Gee aren't you excited. I am repeating this in a new thread because my 1st posts may have expired on some people's news servers, and my wishy-washiness may be confusing to some. Also I tweaked the info slightly. Notes on cross-posts: c.g.d.design - this particular game design has been discussed extensively in this forum under the heading "Players A and B can't die." Crank up DejaNews for details. This is an invitation to test the design. r.g.frp.misc, r.g.pbm - this is a PBEM free-form RPG. misc.writing - this is a collaborative writing project, cleverly disguised as an RPG to keep people interested and producing. Detractors aside, I MEAN IT. I evaluate people on their writing, that's the entry fee. And I'm not the only one in control of the authoring. Your charter says my post is on-topic, so please, no more flames. r.a.int-fiction - we're gonna make Choose-Your-Own-Adventure webpages out of it, eventually. Hopefully sooner than later. Among other things, we are here to practice the art of the branch. Excerpt from CODEX MORTUS ---------------------------------------------- If we are all Gods and we have thrown our toys the mortals away and we are Immortal What shall we do and we cannot die to entertain ourselves? - Miokwo, Poetus Deus The Game Of Immortals ----------------------------------- Miokwo grows tired of awaiting avocation from the ether. And so he embarks upon the telling of it all, himself, enjoining others to exhort the foul blessings of Eternity. Peace, remonstrance, abrogation. Deus Ex Machina. In Death do we trust, we who cannot die. This is a Play By E-Mail (PBEM) free-form Role Playing Game (RPG). Free-form means that there's no rulebook and very few rules. The main goal of the game is to enjoy the game. That can mean many things to many people, that's part of the connundrum of what being a god is about. The Rules --------------- - Make up a God. Any God. I don't care. - Submit to me a sample of your writing, i.e. make the God do something. I'm only going to take good writers as in the past, I've found that this is what makes a game the most rewarding. Makes it fun for me, thereby increasing my own energy and enthusiasm, thereby making it more fun for you. What do I mean by "good?" Well, put your heart into it and send me something that "doesn't suck." Although I'd love to work exclusively with poet laureates, that's not the real world, so my expectations are realistic. Also, although I've been complimented on my own writing, I'm not a poet laureate either. What I don't want is "Thor picks up the axe. Thor swings the axe. Thor likes his axe. Heh, heh, heh." and that's it. None of this minimalist crap, you need to write paragraphs and move the plot action along with your posts. If you send me a writing sample, I will get back to you either the same day or the next. I hate waiting on other people, so I will be true to my word. - Please write your stuff in the 3rd person. - The rules are spelled out in Miokwo's poem. Any questions? - Uuuh, it's a Pantheon. All Gods have knowledge of each other. You can try to play Monotheism if you like, but you're gonna have helluva existential angst. :-) - The story will be created jointly and is very much open-ended. But please try to blend in with what others are telling. My job as Orchestrator is to try to keep us going in a common direction, but I'm not a dictator. - Game updates will happen every 1..4 days, depending on your personal energy. You will be expected to respond within that period. If things sit for a week, everyone loses interest. Especially me. - If you don't really have time to participate, please don't bother. It's vital that participants have the energy and enthusiasm to write regularly. So if you don't think you can manage the rhythm, i.e. you're crazy busy with your mundane workload of the month, please don't kid yourself. - once you're on-board, please put [GODS] in the subject line of your e-mail so I can filter it.
