The Space Project - Design update From: ericsum@aol.com (EricSum) Date: Thu, 22 Oct 1998 00:00:00 +0000 Here are the portions of the game that are working as of right now. By working I mean that they produce the expected results, some of the output to the turn sheet needs to be cleaned up though as it is not wrapping properly. Completed Sections ----------------------------- Parser & Sequencer Player Account Editing Movement from System to System Orbitting a Planet Unorbitting a Planet Display of System Info on Ships first Sequence if not orbitting Display of Planet Info on Ships first Sequence if orbitting a planet Output to players turn file (needs cleanup for line breaks) Buying items from a market and moving them into Cargo Space (includes making sure that player has enough money, ship has enough Cargo Space, market has enough items to satisfy purchase order). Next Step -------------- The NAME command, which will allow a player who discovers a new planet, system, or alien race to set the name for that object. Once set it cannot be changed. Short Term Future Steps ------------------------------------ The SELL command, including making sure that the market has the demand for that item and enough money on hand to pay for the item. Items bought will be put into the Markets storage, once Storage exceeds a certain point then the item will no longer be bought and will switched to a SELL item if the Market is an alien market (this will keep the markets liquid, the new price that the system is selling the item for will be higher than what they bought it for to prevent exploiting the market). For player owned markets, once the item demand is met then the item will no longer be bought unless the player owning the place decides to buy more from player traders. Ongoing Steps --------------------- Database design and optimization Notes: I will probably save combat for the very last section that I code. I want to make sure that combat is perfect, efficient, and makes sense. I also intend to add a newsletter to the game similar to the Olympia Times. Finally, I will be putting up a web site so that people can track the progress of the games development, this SHOULD happen sometime in the next two weeks. Thanks, Eric Referenced By Up
