If the Aliens follow the Human principle then they'll name systems they regularly visit and number or code the rest in some way. If a player arrives at a minor Alien world then they're liable to want to name it. Ok so this world now has two names one according to the player and one according to the Aliens - now imagine a conversation between the two at a third planet where they're both talking about the same planet without knowing it because they refer to it by different names. Major planets and systems - especially if presetup and known by several races are liable to become known by a common name and the players should not be able to rename them.
