"Eye of the Beholder"-- a PBEM RPG for Cyberpunk 2020 From: wyldmynd@my-dejanews.com Date: Wed, 09 Dec 1998 00:00:00 +0000 This is to announce my CP2020 PBEM campaign and its first adventure scenario, "Eye of the Beholder". I am currently looking for 3-4 players who are willing to maintain a 2 post per week minimum and provide reasonable and well roleplayed characters. Character Building information: All characters will be built on 60 character points, 50 skill points, and their Int+Ref in pickup skill points. It is suggested that players work up the lifepath before deciding about the character's role or any skills. As a houserule, I do allow characters to have 2 Special Abilities in special cases (such as a netrunner who ia an investigator for the police / Netwatch or a doctor/surgeon whose specialty is cybernetics.). The primary Special Ability must be decided initially and I must be notified before you buy any pickup skills. The secondary SA may only be purchased with pickup skill points and it may be no more than the score of the primary SA at all times. If you are one of the fortunate souls who owns every R.Talsorian CP product, you may apply whatever source material you find with the exception of: When Gravity Fails, Maximum Metal, or the Firestorm books, Stormfront or Shockwave. If you are using any material from the region books (Rough Guide to the UK, Pacific Rim Sourcebook, Eurosource, Deep Space, or Home of the Brave), please let me know. Beginning funds: use the chart on pg 58 of the rulebook. Starting funds are your primary SA's salary times 3-- period. As for cybernetics, PC's always have to option of selling out. Just keep in mind that there must be some secret, ulterior motive as to why someone would invest up to 10K in your sorry carcass! ^_^ Gear: use common sense. All of the gear books are fair game (Chrome Series, Blackhand's Street Weapons, Brainware Blowout.). Just be sure that you're familiar with the basic background information on pgs 176-185 of the rulebook. Pay particular attention to the UCJC chart on pg. 179. ^_^ PLEASE SEND ALL CHARACTER SUBMISSIONS TO: gamemaster@wyldmynd.zzn.com Campaign setting: The setting is very much the same as the original, yet different. #1: Society is still about 1 tech level advancements behind in acceptance regarding cybernetics. While this doesn't change the availability, it does affect public perception of people with obvious cybernetics. #2: Biomedicine is not something taken for granted - you either can have it or you can't. If you get any biotech / nanotech, please let me know. #3: There is currently an undercurrent of anger and hostility towards the Orbitals. As the campaign begins, the PC's are living in a world where the Orbital War never ended. Instead, a cease fire was declared and an unsteady peace was acheived for the greater good (or maybe at least until on side could get the upper hand!) As a result, there is a Cold War situation between most of the world's governments, the orbitals, and the corporations... I will be giving more information before the PBEM kicks off and there will be information on posted to my website as it gets prepared. If you have character specific questions, I will answer them on a per character basis. What I am hoping for is a Gibson-esque style game where the role of the character is not as important as how the characters deals with the problems put before them. The background feel in insprired by William Gibson's novels (Virtual Light, Idoru, and Count Zero, specifically), as well as the works of Steven Barnes Streetlethal and Gorgon Child), Walter Jon Williams (HardWired), and Mick Farren (Vickers, Last Ride of the DNA Cowboys, and the Feelies). Most of the base storyline from this game comes from my earlier campaign and takes place in my current campaign world. One last note on character building: normally I wouldn't bother with stating the obvious but -- I am very strict regarding certain aspect of player character stats. I AM NOT looking for combat monsters, god characters, etc. If I receive a character which DOES NOT FIT within both my parameters and the edicts of common sense (my call on that one!), I will quite probably ignore the e-mail entirely. Please understand that I do no like taking that attitude but as someone who has GM'ed for over 20 years, my patience concerning this issue is very, very short. If you have any questions, please e-mail me. If you have a solid background, please let me know about it early. If I receive this information during the start of the character building process, I am a lot easier to get along with. With that now out of the way, I will add the following bit of information: If you are not selected to play, I will find a way to get you into the game somewhere down the line. It is my "special guest star" caveat and I have found that it lends more color to my campaigns. If you are interested in this kind of player position it will require that you follow the storyline (which will be updated on the website at least once every two weeks or so). As soon as I fill the player slots, the game will begin. Thanks!
