Free and Commercial Games From: madcentral@aol.com (MadCentral) Date: Mon, 14 Dec 1998 00:00:00 +0000 I know, I know, it's all been said before. I *do not* want to reopen the boring old free v. commercial discussion. It's just that I was looking at Rec.Games.PBM today and there was virtually *nothing* that interested me *at all*. Not that some of that stuff wasn't really interesting... I'm sure it was. But for me, only commercial PBM discussion is of any interest (in the same way that Baseball might be real interesting to a Baseball fan, but it wouldn't be to somebody who came looking for Kickboxing... if you see what I mean.) Now I am totally sure that a lot of the people who do this 'free PBM on the net' thing look at the commercial messages and feel just the same... "What, I gotta pay?... not interested". That's because the commercial and free markets are related, but only tenuously for many people. I am entirely aware, before you all start shouting, that people like Greg etc. do *both* and that's great. But I just wondered why there isnt two seperate Rec.Games.PBM lists, one for Commercial and one for free games? That would make it much easier to find something you are interested in and might keep potential newcomers a bit longer if they didn't have to look through a load of stuff that, as far as they were concerned, didn't apply to them. And yes, I also know there are *other* lists. I'm sure all this has probably been discussed before but I just wondered. A final word... I like Rec.Games.PBM and I'm not just complaining... I'd keep coming either way... this is just constructive suggestion that I thought I'd open to the field. Anyone agree? Violently disagree? (Yeah, I know, the latter is the more likely).
