After playing many other games, we became intrigued with the idea of a PBeM game that focuses true cooperative storytelling. We have already had a successful run with a Star Trek sim of this variety, and now we are trying our hands at a game loosely based on the Firefly universe created by Joss Whedon. It is the end of the twenty-first century, and humanity is reaching out to test the near reaches of space. Back on Earth, the ecosystem is degrading faster than the miraculous new technologies can repair it, prompting waves and waves hopeful migrants to depart for greener pastures. A sprawling corporate technocracy maintains peace for profit on homeworld and the colonies, but the dark that stretches between inhabited worlds is a dangerous place. Faster-Than-Light travel is still an expensive and dubious proposition in and of itself. Even a sojourn across the solar system may pose hazards ranging from mechanical failure to debris fields to space pirates. Yet it is in the space between the worlds that freedom can be found, and many are those who seek it there. This is the story of the Solitaire's crew, their lives and their struggles. Owned and commanded by a gentleman gambler, the Solitaire is ostensibly a pleasure yacht that conveys its master between the outer colonies and space station casinos at his whim. Said gambler, however, seems to harbor other, more shadowy agendas... If you love reading and writing quality soft science fiction, you may find yourself aboard the Solitaire. Join us as we embark on a journey of interpersonal exploration across the dim and silent reaches between islands of decadent glitz. [ This is a new entry for the PBM List.
