Each player controls a FACTION, a group of champions and units, in a fantasy world where they can build an empire, explore the world, engage in trade, and/or study powerful magic. Each game of Eldritch runs either as an open-ended game, or until one or more factions meets the defined victory conditions. Please be careful of the Whirlpool. I hesitate to ask but isn't 61 [ilan] quit a load for 10 guards? Would you like to spare some of them for a later return? ==================== Talon [F14] writes: Greetings All, Clan Talon is now moving into the second phase of development. We welcome trade and cooperation with all factions. If you are on the continent of Eldri send me a message and we can work out an agreement. We also welcome all champions and settlers to our town of Dokoli. We shall hire any champions wishing to enlist and have plenty of work for any peoples wanting a safe environment in which to settle and prosper. ==================== Xenocide [F53] writes: RE: Death of Seth [C8800] the Bard An open letter to the Bard's Guild, Chavivi [C8766], Mikko [C8819], and Guri [C8769]. From Kali of Xenocide [F53] Abbot of Xenophobia [L13555] city. We of Xenocide deeply regret the death of Seth the Bard however Bwalin Brosu is not responsible for Seth's death. If anyone is responsible is it Dorvad the Ancient. Dorvad the Ancient fouls the beneath near us with his presence. His chaos has spewed forth several times from the underworld threatening the citizens of Xenophobia. So far we have managed to defeat his ghouls, wights, and zombies that have come to the surface world, but brave (and deceased) scouts have seen much stronger forces. Anchorum and Ungial are Doom Drakes in his service. Also Nix the Insane [C7130] Ice Gnome, Desse Legaly [C9010] wraith, and Wun [C14509] night demon along with hordes of Undead and Void creatures all follow the Lord of Death. How does all this relate to Seth's death you ask? Several months ago Seth asked a Xenocide scout where to find his leaders. Even with these evil creatures running loose Xenocide has kept the gates of it's city Xenophobia open to all, and so the scout directed Seth to Xenophobia where he was welcomed. Seeing Seth's skill the leaders of Xenocide did ask Seth to join in our struggle against Dorvad. Seth refused our offer and it would seem took offense for the next month he was caught by Bwalin Brosu in the act of sabotaging the merchant's guild. Bwalin thought that Seth was an agent of Dorvad and with a cry of righteous anger did set upon Seth and his many Cythog protectors. In the mighty battle that followed many of Xenocide were slain along with Seth. Xenocide seeks allies against the vile Dorvad. Will the Bard's guild continue its miss placed vendetta against Xenocide and thus aid Dorvad? Or will it ally with Xenocide against its true enemy? ==================== Kepsuu Anarako [F10] writes: So, what dishonored piece of dogmeat will insult Anara's Chosen THIS month? Speak up, please. Oh, and send us a map, that we may kill you the quicker. ==================== Slash Y [F50] writes: From: Director of /Y Operations To: All Via: Executive Director of /Y Subj: CITY OF DEXTER SAFE ZONE Ref: (a) /Y Executive Orders 1. In accordance with reference (a), a guarantied "safe zone" has been established within two territories of Dexter in all directions. Travel in this zone requires escort by /Y Guards to ensure safety of all who visit these regions. 2. Any traveler in this area is advised to contact the Director of /Y Operations for arrangement of safe passage. 3. Unauthorized personnel will be removed. DirOps ==================== Black Reavers [F42] writes: It looks like FAB is starting to show their true colors. After agreeing to a non-aggression pact which they themselves wrote, a member of their group savagely attacked my forces in the underworld and resulted in the death of three champions. Now they are attempted to renege on the portion of the treaty that calls for reparations to be paid for loses resulting from those acts by claiming they were only protecting themselves. Until this matter is resolved, I urge anyone with any type of agreements with FAB to watch your back. More to follow ==================== Freedonia [F9] writes: Now THAT is more like it. A perfect month, where everything goes well, merchants appear with nice things to trade, and ravening horrors decide that defenseless scouts aren't worth eating! It just makes me worry about what will happen next. In the meantime, Freedonia is getting its production lines straightened out. Many herbs are available, in increasing quantities. Magical gems are available for trade. Training units are getting ready to teach your busy people some of those useful skills, and mass-produced items are being produced. Let us know what you'd like to trade for! Sorry, no Loyalizer beams available. Yet. ==================== Erewhon [F80] writes: Our scouts have discovered and explored the town of Danartoa. Finding it unoccupied and unexplored, we claim it and its environs as our own. Anyone who wishes to dispute this claim should contact us immediately. Ogrun, Chief of the Clans of Erewhon ==================== The Iron March [F30] writes: The newly conquered village, in the tunnels just below The Halls, was developing rapidly under its new dwarven leaders. It was a quick and decisive victory over the unsuspecting settlement. Yet Verg the Axeman thirsted for more as he approached the Citadel. His glorious victory had fed an insatiable appetite for war. As he ascended the near-endless spiral of granite steps leading to the Citadel of the Scroll, even he marvelled at how that massive structure towered above the city like a mountain of granite. Verg casually swept his iron axe through the air as he marched upward, enjoying his memory of the recent slaughter. The enormous gates of the Citadel swung open for him as the guards spotted his distinct armor. The Council was waiting inside . . . eager, and ready to discuss the next plan of battle. ==================== And Friends [F29] writes: Robin studied his correspondence Neighbours, well well. Out here no representative of the Free City can be found, so it will be good to have someone to trade with. Any other person entering shelrana please say hi so we can rally your scouts for you. New long range aquatic scouts dispached also... How big is this ocean? --==== Rumors ====-- ==================== Do not underestimate the value of a good glow, or the damage that one can do. Slings make good enough weapons against them, swords and axes do not. ==================== To the Black Reavers: I have received your message. I shall expedite my travel, and hopefully reach your desired region within two month. With luck I may be there by the time you receive this letter. Best Regards, Ilithian Thes Master Trader House Perigrini ==================== I have scried F42 "Black Reavers" to my east, and I'm worried. I've been playing PBM for 11 years now, and "Black Reavers" sounds to me like something a 14 year old kid would make up. Does anyone know if they can be trusted? ==================== Whomever is casting overland magic against the peaceful denizens of the Free City should stop before they get caught. As has been noted several times, we have enough troops to put a stop to such nonsense. General Hildicky, Commander of the Free City Militia, Guardian of the Free City Fortress Baron of the Free City proper ==================== Talon, Your words are meaningless. Do not approach us unless you have a death wish. Tr'chok the Death ==================== Following the ejection of the previous ruling party, the citizens of Grig eagerly await the inauguration of the new ruling coalition. There is some concern that the elvish inaugural ball may be a bit much for ursan sensibilities. ==================== I did not intend to travel far over the ocean, but there was a sight that needed investigation, that of a whirlpool sucking in large volumes of water, in the North East corner of the Great Sea between Nestal, Lamandra, Wavelt and Eldri. As I approached there appeared to my amazement, a single figure in a stony shell, surrounded by a faint glow, a Serpent Man, at a Whirlpool, in the Great Sea. A poem by Princess Fruthany ==================== Zaark the Fool, We will begin the journey to the location you desire as soon as practical. It is a distant journey and will take many months, but the trip will be worth it, if only to silence you perpetual boasting. Bakra the Thunderer ==================== Kyannim stared across the great valley with wide eyes. Never had he imagined the world stretched so far. Looking forward he could see for miles out across the small ocean. Looking back, he could no longer see his village. His whole life the village boundaries had been the width and breadth of his world. When the elders bade him, a young serpent with little real skill, to undertake this mission of exploration he was apprehensive at first and perhaps a bit afraid. But now, the outside world was a wondrous place full of new sights, new sounds, and grandeur. Never before had he lost sleep in anticipation of sunrise, for with the dawn came a new day full of new discoveries. He unpacked the twelve fist-sized Trela Bees that Nyaag had given him upon his departure. They were placed in pouches so that only their heads were exposed. Gathering fruits and sqeezing them in a cloth, he held each bound bee up to the cloth where they drank readily. They no longer fussed in their leather pouches, and for that Kyannim was relived. The first few days they had made such a din (even inside his pack) he was sure a swampstalker (or worse) would find him an arrows' flight away. He soon learned that a few overripe fruit added to the squeeze-cloth would quiet them after their feedings. The moon was full last night, so this would be the day of his first report. He searched for a Dinmuk seedpod and carefully nipped the spines and notched the pod the way Nyaag had instructed him. A notch here for timber, a cut there for the beasts in the field, and stain the pod with Burntberry juice just...so...for the terrain. He turned the pod over checking his work. Having never learned to read or write he was quite please with his "report". Picking up one of the bees, he tied the pod to its neck and attached the pod to its back with treesap from the Bogpine. He loosened the bag and shook the bee onto a flat rock in the sunshine. Disoriented, the bee spent several minutes walking in circles and grooming itself. Finally, it lifted from the rock and made a line straight for the village. Kyannim was amazed at the ability of the bee to sense where its home was. He hoped he could do the same when the time came for him to return home. Nyaag has taught him how to tether a Trela Bee to gain his bearings in an emergency, but he hoped his sense of direction and meager training would be enough. ==================== Journal entry: Day 7 in the month of Hieao. Damn rains won't let up. Found a small rain forest in far Eastern Eldri. Loracht moss is plentiful. Of all things, chanced upon some Giant Crocodiles eating grapes. Hope they like grapes better than humans. Still searching for that elusive land bridge between East Eldri and West Wergon. Not really sure it exists, the old barbarian must have been playing games with me. Alotia Tothmuk, Explorer and Adventurer ==================== Fate winds the tightening band of future around each individual in the world. Who knows when its grip will cut off one's air supply? ==================== Spekleg the Witch may be getting a bit crazy in her old age, dreaming of a city in the clouds. Just the Wind did not think so. Felidius Moraastol Dor Chanlarden did not think so. A city in the clouds would be grand. They just needed to find a city and a few volunteers. ==================== Rokard Castle, in the Edhelbyn hills of South Wergon, is in need of cattle and ale. Good prices. ==================== Is it just me or has the wet weather made everything rot faster? ==================== Dearest Angel Construction, construction everywhere but nothing is being built. The Brothers have given me a farm of my own to live in, it's not bad, but I don't know anything about farming or about these formicites build= ers. I hope it doesn't fall on top of me. I still miss you and haven't r= egained my memory. =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0= =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 =A0 with longing lo= ve ==================== Nations of Eldritch, hear my call. A new plague has entered the world by the name of Dorvad the Ancient. This evil Lich Lord is the bane of everything living. Your conflicts and disputes will mean nothing if this malevolent force is not stoped. Heed my warning. ==================== Chronicle End Mark ----- Mark Thomas thomasSPAMGUARD@clark.net http://www.clark.net/pub/thomas You can't manage creativity.
