Well, I don't know that they were *contradictory*, just that they
didn't give me something with which I could say "Ah, *that's* how
a powergame is played."

Well, I've said more than once that I'm almost exclusively a
roleplayer rather than a wargamer (and I use "wargamer" in the
sense of "not a roleplayer"), so that's not really too
surprising.  I like Car Wars, and Champions-as-a-combat-game, and
a few of the rail games, but that's pretty much the extent of my
interest/experience.

Mostly I lack sufficient competitive spirit, I think (heck,
losing Car Wars is almost more fun than winning, provided I do so
by vaulting, exploding, or some other suitably spectactular
method).  Now, assign me to *program* one, *that* part is fun.
