Eldritch Chronicle - turn 28 From: thomasSPAMGUARD@clark.net (Mark Thomas) Date: Thu, 22 Jul 1999 00:00:00 +0000 Eldritch is a computer moderated, play-by-email, strategy game of exploration and conquest for a variable number of players. Each player controls a FACTION, a group of champions and units, in a fantasy world where they can build an empire, explore the world, engage in trade, and/or study powerful magic. Each game of Eldritch runs either as an open-ended game, or until one or more factions meets the defined victory conditions. During our inadvertantly censored last episode we learned that Coifhox the hobgoblin was accepted into the elven camp and his village would be allowed to survive if he and some of his fellow hobgoblins would be willing to lead the elves into battle. If they did well he might even get a Sheriff title in his village. Well, Coifhox decided it was real good that the elves would let them survive and even allow them to fight; but, there was something about the deal that didn't seem quite right. Anyway, life goes on in the elven camp, and a weird one it is. So far Coifax has only seen one elf with a real iron sword, for some reason the others are all toting practice swords. Well, it is suppose to be a training camp. The big excitement this week seems to be the unit of formicites that just arrived, he heard one elf commenting to another "well, at least there's someone here that can nail 2 boards together without a committee now." One of the elves that worked on the woodcutting crew brought him a tree trunk and told him he was suppose to make clubs. He wasn't sure what a bunch of elves trained to use swords would want with clubs; but, what the heck, it was something to do. ==================== Freedonia [F9] writes: Flying Serpents (again!), homicidal elves, and ravening bugbears, oh my! You would think someone has something against Freedonians! Well, since our only goal is to control enough territory to not be worth crushing - and to provide anything you'd want to smash us for in trade, anyway, we're going to have to stay careful and raven back. For those visiting, our Merchant's Guild will be finished next month, and ash mages will be interested to hear we're swimming in Churgot Pollen. And if you're interested in that special gem, drop us a line - we might have it for you. ==================== The Uplifted [F21] writes: "Ice Gnomes. Ice Gnomes. We are surrounded by Ice Gnomes! They are all over!" "You sure that this isn't Ogres? You know, this has happened before..." "No, I'm sure. We have Gnomes in all the main branches from Surdcozwull. The Ogres were a fluke, some set up camp before we could reach the gnomes and our emissary tought the scout reports were mistaken." "So. Have him drop his duties, and go forth. We need those gnomish shamen." ==================== Kalishari [F5] writes: Mercia, you have not replied to my correspondence RE: unit U12749; I cannot allow non-communicative, unknown factions to wander around in my city - I apologize for any inconvenience the death of your scout may cause. I will also be setting your status to unfriendly so that I can exclude you from my territories until you make contact. I will be happy to replace the unit when we establish diplomatic communications. ==================== Talon [F14] writes: Greetings Kilton Fes of House Peregrini, We eagerly acticipate the arrival of a representative from your great house. Rest assured that this representative shall receive all due respect. Free trade is of utmost importance to us. We shall make every effort to foster its development in the areas which we control. Please feel free to make any suggestions as to how we may improve our area for future trade. Byfon, Mayor of Dokoli ==================== Xenocide [F53] writes: Bards council, pay 5000 COINS to Xenocide for disrupting local economies, sabotoaging our bank, putting prices on the heads of our champions, and attempting to insite our neigbors into war with Xenocide. ==================== Slash Y [F50] writes: JC looked over the troops assembled in the square. Not exactly everything he hoped for, but then they would just have to do. "MOUNT UP!", he cried, followed by "FORWARD, MARCH!" The sound of hundreds of boots marching out into the surrounding area shhok the ground. JC smiled. He would see if they were ready or not... ==================== Fellowship of the Hallowed Nostrils [F102] writes: Now isn't this interesting? I, Anal, prospective mayor of Elfdom, leader of the magnificent pure breed of the Elven way, enemy of the ways of darkness, have a new champion: Koalnes, an Ogre of the dark path. How is it that such a rumored enemy should join the paths of the Elven race of light? What motivates such a one as this? How shall he ever command the respect of his Elven followers? Thus shall this faction now blend both light & darkness under the same banner, thus transforming the vision of our land before us into a land with "bright new possibilities"? Let me be clear from the onset, oh those who dare wish to join this faction of pure goodness, that we shall still hold steadfast to the paths of light. Those of the dark ways will submit to those ways or the retribution of ours that you shall taste will be of the sharp points of our arrows as they descend deep within your dark black polluted hearts. Have I made myself clear? ==================== Xenocide [F53] writes: Lastil Bregani Mayor of Stelenburg, We have heard Stelenburg is an enemy of Dorvad. Since Dorvad is also our enemy we will send 8 highly skilled formicites of the Xeno Construction Union and materials to build a merchants guild for free. They can complete the building two months after arrival. Unfortunately the location of Stelenburg is unknown to us. Please send directions and the XCU will begin immidiately. ==================== And Friends [F29] writes: "Beings", Robin said, "This has been an important month diplomatically, we have met another two civilisations, and established friendly relations. In addition a rep from AMG has arrived in Agape and we look forward to an increased supply of amber and diamonds. Team 2 is on its way. Our magical endevours have proven successful and you see our new steam galley in the sky. We have heard your comments about the barren surroundings to our fair city and hope to begin terraforming operations when the neccesary ingrediants are to hand. You will have noticed that a number of glows now boost our defences. They come highly recomended by He Who Knows All. Thank you for your attention, you may now return to your labours" ==================== Hope's Homeland [F101] writes: To Magnimous Rentus: adventurer, soldier of fortune, warrior, and above all else, lion hunter. There are lions to be had. If you are interested, contact Hope's Homeland directly. But do not delay, forces are being marshaled as we speak, to remove this threat. Horace the Honorable for Hope's Homeland ==================== Holderon's Regency [F81] writes: "Greetings to all from Holderon's Regency, We have remained silent for a since the beginning except for the few we contacted earlier on. We seek to build and grow like anyone else. Recently I have come across a interesting problem. We as a world seem to communicate very little with one another. The area where this most disturbs, is the lack of an exploration consortium. Pooling our resources in this regard could prove to be beneficial to all. I am aware that many have been exchanging one anothers turn reports to facilitate this sort of information; however, I believe that all would be served by an interest in this matter. Since, I have little skills in the arcane area of computation, is there a would volunteer in our midst. If all beleive that it is the single factions responsibility I shall bow out and ask never again, but if there are interested parties please feel free to contact me. Perhaps we can pool resources and find one among us capable of creating a map of the globe. Explorer's Unite. Lord Holderon" --==== Rumors ====-- ==================== Crackpot was last seen in the area of 48,28. A reward of 500 coins has been rendered on his head. ==================== Valindar Illvaros: We thank you for opening your borders to our trade traffic. This month we are engaged in trade with some locals, but next month we will make every effort to visit your fair city.
