free game openings From: Jens Niemann <niemann@ike.uni-stuttgart.de> Date: Thu, 29 Jul 1999 00:00:00 +0000 THE "KING OF KINGS" PBEM GAME This game is a free amateur PBM/PBeM strategy game. KoK is similar to a variety of boardgames: Axis & Allies, Britannia and the like. You got a country and a tribe of warriors to expand your empire and rule the world. Any number of players can participate in one game, though current games run with 6 to 16 players. Any period in history can be simulated, but 20th century battles are generally not well represented by the system (no air, primitive naval combat). In current KoK games the turn reports are only posted on a homepage. If you like to participate, do the following: A) Look at the King of Kings homepage http://www.ike.uni-stuttgart.de/~www_tfd/jens/kings/kings.htm B) Inspect the running games and rules and decide if it fits your interests C) Send a message containing "K34" as a subject for joining a new game D) Wait till enough players have gathered E) Alternatively, write "K32" in the subject line and sign up as a replacement player (2 more needed) Player comments: "I am now playing in my second KoK PBeM tournament, and enjoy it greatly. The level of complexity is between RISK! and Civ II, about equivalent to the computer game Castles II. Different types of land affect movement and battles and produce various amounts of resources: gold, wood, and food. Gold is spent to produce new units, which must be fed, and wood is spent to build ships to transport units across water. Alliances operate at 5 levels, with the highest allowing the transfer of provinces. You can spend 20 minutes to 3 hours a week analyzing your options and writing your orders, as you like. Communication with other players by e-mail is allowed, but not required. Games are run in both German and English, and players come from around the globe. If this sounds like a game you'd enjoy, read the rules and then write Jens Niemann to let you into a game." -Bob Barrett in Ohio, USA "I like King of Kings for its level of complexity, that is more demanding and realistic than RISK but not as confusing and time-consuming like most common PBM/PBeM games. I always find half an hour in my free time to prepare the orders for my kingdom. I can hardly await the weekly turn reports. It shows a complete map*, a production statistic and of course the battle reports. Diplomatic relations with my fellow wargamers are really enjoying. You don't even need to be a super-general. A trustful ally is worth more than a dozen armies. Oh, did I mention this fine game is offered entirely free?" -Thomas Tempelmann of Mountain View, CA *Now includes optional graphical map Step by and take a look http://www.ike.uni-stuttgart.de/~www_tfd/jens/kings/kings.htm For a sizeable group of individuals (6 or more dedicated players), i am willing to set up a game in any period of history.
