Myriad Chronicle - DungeonWorld From: madcentral@aol.com (MadCentral) Date: Fri, 20 Aug 1999 00:00:00 +0000 Myriad Chronicle No.8 Mark the Third, King of Bereny and Sovereign of all the known lands of Myriad bids thee welcome, adventurer, to his gazette. His Highness has commanded me, Laurence DeVille, royal scribe, to produce and circulate this missive, that each of you shall know the news of the land, in full and in truth, as brought to you by his Royal command. THE BATTLE FOR POLDOON PASS The battle has been raging for a while now and it seems that the Berenian forces have been pushing back at the possessed Kyrian forces controlled by the Jenna. The enemy have fallen back and scattered to some degree, but not without dealing significant losses to our own soldiers. The most frightening development has been the witness accounts of the devastating effect of the Jenna's mental attacks, which are said to kill a man before he is even close enough to see them. Reports from the front are understandably sketchy at this time. Plague! The 'Dance of Death' which has struck Ghorst and its surrounding regions seems to have begun to spread. It is now a matter of great concern, since efforts to control the spread of the plague seem to be failing. Presently, the terrible sickness seems to be affecting mainly the very old or very young although some adventurers are reported to have contracted it. There is no cure for the Dance of Death at this time. New High Merchant The new leader of the Merchants alliance has now been voted in following the death of the man who previously held the position. The well-known entrepreneur known as ''The Raven of Ghorst'' has assumed the powerful position following a near-unanimous vote for his election. The Red Hood Reports are flooding in of a Masked Outlaw spotted in Central Dungeon. This fellow, calling himself ''The Red Hood'', perhaps in reference to the well-known folk hero 'the Black Hood', has been systematically robbing remote farms and homes, murdering all he finds in his way. If you should find the Red Hood, beware! He should be considered very dangerous! Blood City Whispers have been reaching the offices of the Myriad Chronicle of the existance of an outlaw city, where brigands, criminals and ne'er-do-well's have gathered to live in depravity, illegality and immorality. Called 'Blood City' this place claims to have no laws and no government, revelling in its barbarity somewhere outside the borders of Bereny. So far, no evidence of the truth behind these rumours has been found. The King has ordered an investigation into the possible location of this evil place, in order that the borders there can be garrisoned for the protection of the people of the Kingdom. Lexor - Still At Large The evil traitor Lexor, once a Lord Crusader until his foul deeds caused him to be cast down and outlawed, remains at large. The reward for his execution now stands at three thousand gold pieces, or a unique magic sword from the royal treasury, as preferred by the person claiming the bounty. If you see Lexor, you should report the matter to the Crown (via the Noticeboard) immediately. Shadow Enforcers The appearance of these dark-clothed men in various places around the land caused some concern that they may be monsters in disguise. In fact, the Shadow Enforcers are simply employees of the Guild of Shadows and are normal citizens of Bereny. When asked what exactly it's purpose was, the Guild of Shadows told us ''our members are involved in the relocation of goods via trade and other means, as well as merchant services in various forms." Indeed. Daemonrift The King has once again called for reinforcements in the Daemonrift. It seems our brave forces there have met with some success and are progressing steadily towards the Demon Prince's citadel. However, the dangerous nature of the 'rift has meant a great many deaths and new adventurers to assist in the desperate struggle would be very welcome. (For information on the Daemonrift 7-day module, contact your GM.) Frontier It has long been known that there is a wild and untamed land to the far East, unsettled and ripe for adventure, colonisation and the expansion of the Kingdom of Bereny, known as the Savage Frontier, or simply ''Frontier''. The King has sent a team of seasoned adventurers and explorers under the employ of the Crown to forge a safe path to travel to this land for those who want the thrill and challenge of building a brave new land in a hostile environment. It is hoped that once the safe route is found many citizens of Bereny will brave the dangers in the name of adventure! Little is known of this strange place except that much of it is jungle and that rumours of exotic and poisonous plants, dangerous animals and huge lizards abound. How much truth there is to this remains to be seen. The Crown Awards In his annual awards ceremony, which is usually just a series of honourable mentions for leading merchants and tradesfolk, The King surprised everyone by unveiling seven magical 'Royal Blades'. These Long Swords are a powerfully enchanted and a valuable prize. The King announced his intention to award three of the blades to the Royal Guild of Adventurers, to be distributed by the guild-leader to members he felt had most earned them. Another three are to go to the Bereny Eagle Elite Fighters on the same basis. These six swords, the King said, are to demonstrate the Crown's regard for the services these guilds provide. The Seventh Blade has been reserved for award at a later date. Up
