Subject: Eldritch Chronicle - turn 34 From: thomasSPAMGUARD@clark.net (Mark Thomas) Date: Sat, 04 Sep 1999 00:00:00 +0000 Eldritch is a computer moderated, play-by-email, strategy game of exploration and conquest for a variable number of players. Each player controls a FACTION, a group of champions and units, in a fantasy world where they can build an empire, explore the world, engage in trade, and/or study powerful magic. Each game of Eldritch runs either as an open-ended game, or until one or more factions meets the defined victory conditions. We would also like to claim Urglub [L10066] for future expansion. Anyone to discuss one of the above claims is invited to contact us to find a diplomatic solution. Regards, Sjoerd Schreuder Zwagonian - F12 / G100 ==================== Hope's Homeland [F101] writes: Horace the Honorable had finally figured out the money problems his units were having. To put it bluntly it was greed. He had addressed the faction many times on the importance of sharing for the good of the whole faction. Yet certain individuals kept holding onto their money at the expense of others. "I've had it," he proclaimed, "from now on sharing is the first command given to all units." But what good would such a proclamation do? Horace knew that it takes more than a proclamation to change the Ursan heart. articleend. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Advance payment no problem. Mawp [C1431] Mayor of Puswadliin ==================== Holderon's Regency [F81] writes: Lord Holderon, if I may, we have secured the titles that you requested and are well on our way to securing three more. Our production of raw materials has finally progressed to a functional point. We are still finding it difficult to find miners. I must admit My Lord that I do not relish the idea of wandering around in the earth from dark to dark. We continue to search for those that can provide us with the necessary Gems and magical components but they are far and few between. But I believe that this will improve quickly as our relations with the En Taro Tassadar go very well, as well as our new alliance with the Dwarves of Mount Jagged Tooth. Sir Erik, while your progress in many areas has exceeded my expectations, I must say that in the problem areas you have just described, I am displeased. Find Miners, improve productionof raw materials. I commend you, however, on all other accounts. Send a Message To Sir Daggot, and tell him that I could not be more pleased with his progress in his province. You should also give the Citizen's Star to the Master Weapon Smiths. They have proven to be the hardest working most productive unit in our service. Continue the good Work Sir Erik and there may be a Lordship for you. ==================== Fellowship of the Bloody Nose [F102] writes: Ok, ok, Far Tai'shar Mai, I suppose you can have that Sheriff title in the Cackalenkef swamp after all. I mean, if you are going to be *that* way about it : killing 90% of my champions and 90% of my units then I suppose that means you *seriously* want that oak that is there. Hano, the Marshal of Ornawetaiwa, sits dismayed with the handful of champions and demoralized elves left for him to command. The town sits in ruins, 100s of elves killed, due mainly to being completely caught off-guard by the 20 Mantids and 20 Elves commanded by the champion Baly of F60 who just walked right in and sliced them all to bits. It was the Lumberers, armed only with their timber smelling hands, who finally finished the aggressors off, and only because the Mantids were too tired to defend themselves after cutting to ribbons 100's of the weaponless elves up. Well, the few champions left of the now Fellowship of the Humiliated now got a crash course on the realities of combat, and the necessity of arming your troops. You know what we're going to do now, oh, Far Tai'shar Mai? No, we are not going to seek revenge. My Builders just finished building a brand new tavern in our now demolished town. So we are going to go back in, bury all our dead, have a drink or two, and contemplate the meaning of life. If our priest were still alive, I suppose we would have a service or something. God, how I love this game... ==================== Erewhon [F80] writes: To House Peregrini: We await your response. To Argoth: We have cash, contact us. To All: We found this item on a battlefield: Item: joran leaf [jora] Found only in the scattered oases of the desert, joran leaves are valued by many as a potent aphrodisiac. Weight: 1/5 kg. Size: small. This item cannot be equipped. This item is only visible to units with the ability to harvest it. It is a herb. Harvested using 9th woodcraft [wood]. This is something the Dwarves of Delzoun CLEARLY do not need. Does anyone else have a use for this item? The females of the Filthy Lot, for example? Feldraze, Trade Master of Erewhon ==================== The Uplifted [F21] writes: Ryotblah was sprawled in the middle of the shrine, face buried in the cold stone. "Oh Dark ones, why have you forsaken me? Am I not a studious pupil of the death? Am I not wielding appropriate symbols? How can I have unhearted the Word of Death, yet be considered so badly that you refuse my dedication to the arts of Death..." The coldness of the floor was the only answer. Raising back, the necromancer found the gaze of the death lord that was overseeing him locked on a small and hunched figure, slowly and unthinkingly sweeping the floors... Enraged by the interruption, Ryotblah pulled a jeweled dagger, and gestured to the lord. Maybe once no soul was in the shrine would the Dark Gods answer his prayers. Surely the dagger, stained with the blood of a fiend, would be a more appropriate sacrifice... ==================== Xenocide [F53] writes: TO: Bard's Guild SUBJ: Terms of Surrender While it is true that Xenocide attacked and killed Guri, it is also true that in any civilized court self-defense is justifiation for homicide. Guri's chronicle articles and his dragon made his intention to cause harm to Xenocide quite clear. Unfortunately his response to our explaintion of Seth's death came only after he appeared on Xenocide territory. In fear for our lives we attacked before he could summon more forces or move more deeply into Xenocide territory. For several months now we have patiently endured "punishment" for slaying Guri. Unending rain fails upon some of our territories while, ash and smoke permiate others. Theft, assassination, and subversion are common place events in regions visited by bard champions. Do not mistake patients with inablity to retaliate. We have restrained ourselves for the Bards claim to stand for civilization and justice. When it was clear to us the Bard punishment would continue indefinately Xenocide attempted to make peace by surrendering. Unfortunatly the Bard's guild actions have been the opposite of its claims for civilization: revenge, vigilantism, assasination, attempts to insite war, etc. Its most uncivilized action was just last month, while claiming publicly it would take no action against Xenocide the Bard's were simulutanitously attempting an assassiation of a Xenocide granary owner in Dacunahu. This last action makes it clear that Xenocide cannot turn over the requested champions and expect impartial justice. Even the most crude barbarian would not slay his enemy under flag of truce. Xenocide *will* accept the judgment of a neutral 3rd party. Until such a time as a neutral 3rd party can be found, Bards spotted in Xenocide territory or casting spells on Xenocide territory will be treated like the lying dogs they are. If the Bard's escalate the conflict with yet more "revenge" missions Xenocide will hunt down and slay Bard's globally. ==================== Freedonia [F9] writes: As with others, Freedonia welcomes travellers visiting our lands. We welcome them even more when they say hello when met, or state their intentions. Even though our lands are dedicated to trade, visiting factions who do not answer our greetings will have to be treated as unfriendly. Such factions will no longer be welcome to trade with us. That unpleasant business dealt with, we invite all who are open to trade to sample the delights of the free city of Freedonia. Although the scotch and tobacco sales remain light, we offer other delights of civilized lands: a wide selection of herbs and gems, minerals, and manufactured items. Let your wishes be known, and they shall be delivered unto you! ==================== And Friends [F29] writes: "People of Agape" said Mandelson, Team 2 is still in a standoff with Lern, but we await his proposals with interest. Distribution of the goodies from the merchants will commence shortly, please stand in an orderly line. Our new fortress looks very fine, and I would like to thank the Rock for his efforts. I would again request that visitors communicate with us. We are especially concerned about the Shadow Lords who are wandering in our Lands. --==== Rumors ====-- ==================== Harken the lark, Therein lies the spies.
