[AD] KINGDOM - the PBM/PBEM Game of Conquest From: "Kerry Harrison" <kerry@madhouseusa.com> Date: Wed, 06 Oct 1999 00:00:00 +0000 KINGDOM The PBM/PBEM Game of Conquest KINGDOM is a game of conquest and magic set in a mythical world of limitless boundaries. Up to 200 players can play in each game. Each player begins with a King, a capital city, and a small empire. From this humble start, more leaders can be trained to help conquer the vast regions around the capital, or to conquer neighboring players who refuse to acknowledge your right to rule. KINGDOM is entirely computer processed, with no subjective human judgments affecting play. You do not need a computer to play the game. Each King can create up to 8 additional leaders. Each type of leader has different abilities and bonuses. A King has the best defensive combat bonus, gains extra supply, and has no limit on experience. The Prince has slow movement, but is the only leader eligible to inherit the empire should the King be killed in battle. Wizard and Cleric leaders are poor leading troops in battle, but can learn and use magic spells and priestly spells, respectively. Admirals have the best combat bonuses at sea, and Heroes have very good combat bonuses but impulsively attack any enemy army they can reach. There are 27 different kinds of land and sea terrain. Each type of terrain will generate a specific type of troops, ranging from human infantry to giant rocs, demons, or sea serpents. There are 84 different types of land, air, and sea troops which can be recruited into your armies. A player accumulates wealth each turn with which he can purchase special items or attributes to help his empire as a whole, which include engineering, agriculture, forts, medicine, religion, military science, and others. As the empire expands, a player's success leads to higher titles of rank. There are 14 ranks, beginning with Knight to the upper level of God- king. Each turn a player receives Victory Points for his empire. The player with the highest Victory Points plays for free until someone else obtains more Victory Points. The game is endless, with new players being added as the game progresses. Any player attaining 50,000 Victory Points is considered to have won the game, receiving $100 in game credit for any of our games. The winner's empire dissolves and the game continues, although the winner may rejoin the same game with a new starting empire. The turn report features a 7x7 hex map for each leader you have in play, showing all areas the leader can reach during movement, as well as the results of the prior moves and any combat, and the current status of all leaders and the empire. The turnsheet is one (or more) detachable pages, custom printed for the empire. The turnsheet shows all special abilities which can be used or purchased, and each leader is listed with places to write any spells, movement, or other actions to be taken. Unlike our other games, KINGDOM has no due dates. Each player's turn is processed and mailed on the day it is received. To prevent some players from having an advantage as a result of shorter mail transit time, turns will not be processed faster than 7 days apart, which allows for a normal mail time of 3 days each way. You can choose a slower game with a minimum of 14 days between moves. KINGDOM has been designed to be extremely simple mechanically so that it is both easy to play and simple for us to process. This allows us to set very low turn fees for this type of game. The game fees are variable, depending on the number of leaders you choose to have in play. The minimum turn fee is $2.25 for your King, plus 25 cents for each additional leader. Thus the maximum cost would be $4.25 for a King with 8 other leaders, although you will seldom want that many leaders. The only optional additional fees are for requesting a 20 by 20 hex map of the terrain you have observed, or for a duplicate (replacement) turn. These game fees may change. KINGDOM is a game for power players. It will take a long time to build up an empire, train additional leaders, and recruit troops. It's a great game for running around the map, gobbling up territory and smashing enemy armies. The KINGDOM rules uniquely balance the positions of old players and newer players by reducing victory points for players with more leaders, by the fealty rules, and by making it difficult to defend large empires.
