New Game From: "Rui Pedro Santos" <Rui.Santos@esoterica.pt> Date: Wed, 10 Nov 1999 00:00:00 +0000 I'm designing a new PBM game and I'll probably start implementing it soon... I've posted this because I wanted to have some feedback from other gamers on what makes a good game to them... what they would like to see in a game and they expect from it... more than that I'm looking for ideas... my intention is to game the game free, computer-moderated and I'll make one my servers available for it... But let me give you a brief description of the game... The game would be a medieval game, involving strategy, tactics, economics, diplomacy and very much of everything else ( and here begins the problem for I fear I have made the game to complex... but maybe not )... There are additional modules that allow the game to be run with Technology, Magic and a varitety of races and creatures... The game setup is done with a point system with you designing your starting position... All players will have an alter-ego or avatar in the game and no one is ever retired from the game... if you die, your heir gets the "crown". If none exists, one rises from your troops... if you have none, one steems from your cities... etc... The game is detailed to a great scale, with several cultures existing, many settlements and many ways to progress along the game... The first question that I would like to have answered is: Do you feel the the possibility of writing scripts and having these run in your positions is beneficial ? Also to give a feel of the current possibilities of the game here comes what could be the adventures of a certain dwarf ( this is my test campaign which runs in a average magical enviroment where techonology is somewhat stagnant do to this fact and with a wide number of strange creatures in it... a normal fantasy campaign... ): After having started in his own town of Khazad-Dum ( how original ), Thorin went out for some time exploring the surrounding regions, joining with a group of adventurers for some time, following the command of it's mannish leader... eventually though in one of the cavern/lairs they explored he found what he had been looking for... a pure vein of gold and some rock tainted with the most rare mithril... He was not very far from a mannish settlement, so he figured he could make this his own kingdom... He returned to Khazad-Dum where he told his tale to the King and asked to given permission to recruit followers to help him build his dream... The king granted him this and he advertised his findings. Soon more than a score of dwarves had aligned with him and were sworn to die with him... He return to the cavern and started the carving of a new empire... In game terms this is translated has having a dwarf that explore some of the area surrounding his area of setup, made himself part of a stack of others players, had some fun with them and then found the said cave where his Mining skill allowed him to see more than just the treasure in the ground... Returning to his home town, he told his tale to the player ruling Khazad-Dum, who in exchange of future support gave him the title of "Clan Founder"... this allow the dwarf to recruit in the city and be exempt from paying salary beyond food... Also be rising his prestige it made him easier to have some dwarves swear allegiance to them increasing their loyalty a lot... No longer being the lone character that the player begun with but quite a powerfull entourage of dwarves of different skills and more or less loyal to him ( most would still consider the king their higher lord and would return to a call-of-arms ), the player dreams of the great under city he will be able to build... maybe even bigger than his home town... Well, anyway keep those ideas flowing and send me stories like this... so that I may design a system that can make them possible... See Ya, Rui Santos Do you feel that a game that allow this kind of liberty and doing is in order ? Referenced By Up
