Polaris Day 93 News From: "Kerry Harrison" <kerry@madhousepress.com> Date: Thu, 09 Dec 1999 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.daredevil.f9.co.uk/ MAIN BULLETIN - Day 93 Byzant'um to join Free Trade League CEO Maroc, head of Byzant'um Inc, financed another outdoor media event this afternoon at Colony Mantua. The reception, which was staged in an orchard near the Western treeline, provided guests with lunch and a range of light beverages. Moreover, it provided the Mantuan elite with another opportunity to mingle in comfortable surroundings. Invitations to these pleasant Byzant'um events are becoming increasingly prestigious. CEO Maroc made a series of short speeches to the assembled crowd in which he thanked Salbov Fisheries and Weeds for providing the crab and shrimp, before moving onto drier business. The Byzant'um boss proceeded to announce his company's imminent membership of the Free Trade League. Negotiations apparently nearing completion will see Maroc granted the ability to install a Byzant'um director. This is expected to pave the way for 'full participation'. Maroc ended his speech with an attack upon the arms race presently underway in the Cirrus system. The Cephalid chief accused the Mantuan and Kyopan administrations of engaging in a spiral of defence, instead of developing and enjoying a peaceful environment. Agromman analysts welcomed the news, suggesting that the Cephalid company should infuse the predominantly Terran organisation with stability; or at least peaceful intentions. Others were more cautious, implying that the growth of the Free Trade League threatened to choke burgeoning levels of free competition in the Frontier Territories. OTHER NEWS Bent Products Merge with Almagest A press conference was held today to provide Bent Products with a platform to announce details of a friendly merger. Bent Products and Almagest Peripherals have apparently finally combined. Bent Koranin, CEO of Bent Products, described how Almagest personnel had been offered new posts. None declined and all are now settling into their new uniforms and, rumour suggests, pay rises. The Agromman dynasty controlling Almagest returned to the Candida Expanse last month amid fears that the families homeworld assets were in jeopardy. At the boisterous conference, journalists asked whether or not Bent Products effectively now was the Agromman Coalition. CEO Koranin refused to comment, stating that such matters were the responsibility of Angra Palurok; the chairman of the Agromman Coalition. Experts drew attention to the increased resources which the merger will make available to Bent Products. Sherwick Report 'Inconclusive' The Senate inquiry into the explosion which two months ago rocked the Sherwick Ambassadorial Hotel, has concluded that there is no evidence to link the blast to extremists. The four star Sherwick was built into Dexter Station, a Terran corporate platform in the Kito system (Candida Expanse), primarily to capture the Candida diplomatic market. Nine guests and staff were killed in the tragedy which inside Terran sources believe was the work of the Proxima Insurgency. Few independent sources believe the claim, which experts attribute to 'paranoia'. Up
