Polaris Day 92 News From: "Kerry Harrison" <kerry@madhousepress.com> Date: Thu, 09 Dec 1999 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.daredevil.f9.co.uk/ MAIN BULLETIN - Day 92 Merlin Reveal Mass Extinction At a drinks reception held earlier today, Kor Lek Thun, director of Merlin Industries, revealed further information on the origin of the mysterious Inessan spacecraft. Information obtained from the vessel apparently revealed its origin. Kor Lek Thun explained how the Sir Galahad, a Merlin starship, had journeyed to this location only to find a swirling asteroid belt. No sign of any parent craft had been found. Kor Lek Thun then stunned those present by describing, in an exciting story, how the Sir Galahad had nearly been destroyed while examining the asteroid field. He praised the ships captain, Yar Lek Chen, for some superb 'seat of the pants' flying which enabled the vessel to narrowly miss some large chunks of rock. Responding to a question from a rather inebriated journalist, Kor Lek Thun acknowledged that the asteroid field may be all that remains of a planet, and that the race that built the craft may now be extinct. He added that this theory was currently being examined. OTHER NEWS GDOP Disburse Alien Artefact At a press conference earlier today Jake Flanery, CEO of GDOP Inc, unveiled the first alien artefact to be returned to the Cirrus system from the Calypso excavations. At a press conference held in the immaculate lobby of Proteus, GDOPs sponsor, the dark stone cube was revealed to a select band of photographers and journalists; many of whom clamoured for a close examination. Mr Flanery proceeded to present the cube to Max Kerling, a Proteus representative, as evidence of the firm commitment GDOP possesses to this growing corporate relationship. Mr Flanery attempted to scotch rumours that his comopany had been undertaking any "wild plundering" in the Calypso system. The distinguished CEO suggested that "the ruins have been, are and will be investigated in a scientific manner and any findings documented". Bent Products To Buy New Vessel CEO Bent Koranin, chief of Bent Products, today revealed plans to purchase a second large cargo vessel. Confirming that an increase in profitability had enabled the company to release fresh funds for investment, Mr Koranin expressed his confidence that intercolonial trading will "soon soar, to the benefit of all its inhabitants". The CEO relayed his belief that the purchase of a Trawler by a competitor represents a welcome boost injection of competitive behaviour. Koranin dismissed suggestions that Bent Products was seeking to monopolise intercolonial trade. The Agromman boss even suggested that the Trawler may be made available to another company, should it place it's trust in the Agromman Coalition. In light of the report, traders expressed their belief that demand for shares in Bent Products would rise. Some gave vent to caution, however, suggesting that a second ship could saddle the Agromman company with a high debt burden; unless the company intends to buy the vessel outright. Up
