Polaris Day 95 News From: "Kerry Harrison" <kerry@madhousepress.com> Date: Fri, 10 Dec 1999 00:00:00 +0000 http://www.daredevil.f9.co.uk/ MAIN BULLETIN - Day 95 Cenarchad Endorse Deadly Weapons Cenarchad Incorporated, the Russet mineral company, today staged what analysts believe is the first arms fair to have taken place in the Frontier Territories. Though a meagre event in comparison with the great Candida shows, the exhibition primarily concentrated on promoting the virtues of an infantry rifle. The 'Sentinel Light Assault' is manufactured by the troubled armaments conglomerate; the Crab Nebula Coalition. Industry experts believe the ploy is part of an attempt by CNC to salvage the reputation of the rifle, which has allegedly generated poor export sales. If so, it is almost certain that Cenarchad have negotiated some sort of sponsorship agreement with the weapons firm. Following a light lunch, guests were invited to watch as a CNC specialist used the rifle to decimate a prefabricated range. Dozens of Terran silhouettes were blown to pieces in what passed for an effective demonstration. Cenarchad CEO, Vere Dalt, showed his confidence in the rifle, stating that it was versatile, robust and dependable. CEO Dalt suggested that Russet technologies had resulted in an advanced device with considerable accuracy and stopping power. CNC claim that, compared to the industry standard, the SLAs unique 'trauma pattern' increases IFC rates (instantaneous fatal casualties) by up to 30%. Vere Dalt concluded by reminding guests that racial tensions were on the increase. The SLA is apparently the answer. OTHER NEWS Carthage To Become Major Research Center Marcus Alaric, CEO of Crystal Palace, announced today that Crystal Palace plans to make Carthage; the first free colony in the Frontier Territories; into a major research outpost. Plans for a score of research facilities manned by hundreds of scientists have already been drawn up, with the necessary support and administration facilities being placed in a ring around the centrally located laboratories to reflect the scientific focus of the settlement. Security is planned to be tight at the facility, with bunkers and perimeter defenses emplaced so as to discourage unwelcome visitors. An electronic defense is also being developed, no doubt one of the first research projects to be undertaken, to defend the colony against hackers and other industrial saboteurs. Surprise as Terrans Protest Government officials called for calm last night as a spate of illegal protests threatened to sow chaos on the Terran homeworld. Colonies in Earths Southern Hemisphere were apparently subjected to sudden demonstrations overnight. Politicians blame anarchists for organising the protests, some of which turned violent as the night wore on. While political analysts believe that the situation has been 'contained', long term repercussions were already apparent. Five protestors were hospitalised in scuffles as security forces moved in to dismantle barricades erected in Fremantle. Ringleaders are apparently being identified today in order to defuse the disturbances. Protestors claim to be demonstrating against the Work Act and/or the prevailing administration. Referenced By Up
