New Battles <DungeonWorld Stuff> From: madcentral@aol.com (MadCentral) Date: Wed, 26 Jan 2000 00:00:00 +0000 A quick disclaimer The following message is probably of interest only to players or potential players of DungeonWorld. Mark the Third, King of Bereny and Sovereign of all the known lands of Myriad bids thee welcome, adventurer, to this special gazette. His Highness has commanded me, Laurence DeVille, royal scribe, to produce and circulate this missive, that each of you shall know the news of conflicts in which our Kingdom is currently involved. Trouble In The Glacier Recent disturbances in the Southern Glacier have escalated rather substantially and the Barbarians of the region have gathered in a surprisingly large force along the Glacier's edge. These armed encampments have begun attacking villages and hamlets on the edge of the Glacier, leaving little but death and destruction in their wake. Attempts by the King to establish diplomacy have resulted in several dead messengers, their heads sent back with eyes gouged out. Last night the King received the first official missive from the Barbarians. It was a simple declaration of war, with a footnote that no discussion would be entered into until the Kingdom was destroyed. This has left the King no choice but to rush troops South to meet any potential invasion, for the protection of the Kingdom and its people. In another odd turn of events, the barbarians are even attacking their own kind. Several Barbarian emcampments, full of these Southern people who refuse to join the uprising, have been razed to the ground, the barbarian bodies left for the giant Wyrms of the region. The Battle For Poldoon Pass After the Kingdom's heroic victory in the Poldoon Pass conflict, the King has decided to take the offensive, making a push into Kyr with a force of our own in an attempt to take and hold the province of Kyr closest to the Kingdom, known as Reve. The Emperor of Kyr, currently residing in and protected by the Kingdom, has welcomed this move to reclaim some of his people's lands. GMs Message Following the success of the experiment with the Poldoon Pass Battle, we will be allowing players to control soldiers in *two* battles starting next turn. The first is the "Glacier Border Conflict" and the second is "Project: Reve". This time each player will control *five* soldiers, instead of only 1. Players who already have soldiers active and left alive from Poldoon Pass can include *them* in their new force of soldiers. We welcome all players who do not currently have soldiers as part of this exciting new part of the DungeonWorld game. Soldiers *are not* adventurers and cannot be taken on to adventure after battle. However, if they survive (and it can get very bloody out there!) we do plan to allow continual advancement through future battles (as we are doing here.) If you want to take a group of soldiers on, simply write a note on your turnsheet saying "Soldiers Please" in big letters. If you already have a soldier please make a note that you want them to continue as well. Soldiers are part of your regular turn (so no new position or base turn fee is needed) and they do not count towards your 'max characters' limit.) PLEASE NOTE: You cannot choose to which battle you are assigned. It is up to the King and his advisors who is posted where. Wait and see! If you haven't tried a soldier before, or if you tried it and enjoyed it, we strongly advise you give this a go! These two battles are going to be important in Berenian history and its a chance to make a permanent mark on the world in which your soldiers live! Up
