More than one, I think... kind of scary the stuff that's still around.

Now, the Phoenyx started out as a BBS (RemoteAccess was the last dialup
software it ran), but I never felt compelled to keep it that way.  Changing
over to what eventually evolved into a mailing list server seemed a whole
lot more natural.  Haven't had a dialup in... uh... years.  I hybridized it
a different way:  instead of telnetting into it, users got QWK (or SOUP, or
BlueWave) packets emailed to them.  Then the thing gatewayed into actual
(UUCP batch) majordomo-style mailing lists.  Eventually, nobody wanted QWK
or dialup anymore, and I shut RA off.

Then again, I didn't run the whole "door game" and multi-line chat shebang,
either, so I didn't have that much invested in a particular interface.  Of
course, if it had ever been a heavy-usage chat board, it probably would
have evolved into an IRC server instead.

(It was, after all, named the Phoenyx because I regularly burned it to the
ground and re-invented it...)

(Well, okay, it was named the *Phoenix* because of that.  It's a darn good
thing line noise altered an uploaded splash screen one day (remember 1200-
baud non-error-correcting modems?) and the misspelling stuck, on account of
by the time I registered a domain name, phoenix.net was taken.  Or, at
least by the time I registered a non-.us domain.  We were
phoenyx.wichita.ks.us for a long time before that, until I decided it was
worth $50/year to have only *one* hard-to-spell element in the domain
name...)
