Automatic world building From: Dave Allen <davea-l@senteinc.com> Date: Mon, 06 Mar 2000 00:00:00 +0000 Hi, Last month, I announced some shareware programs I have developed, called Nation Builder and World Builder. I have released a new version of the software this weekend. While I have added some major features to Nation Builder, I would like to make special mention of an important decision I have made. You can use Nation Builder to invent worlds for roleplaying games or as background for fiction, or you can use it to learn about the factors behind ancient Earth history. The ultimate goal of Nation Builder is to produce world maps containing full histories of nations from the Stone Age to the Middle Ages, including user-definable rules for non-human races and magic. Unlike computer games such as Civilization or Age of Empires, Nation Builder runs automatically to create an entire world history in minutes. It models a very large number of nations at once, and there is no need to artificially "play balance" different positions. Here is an example of the results Nation Builder produces: http://www.best.com/~jendave/builder/nation/history_1.html Previously, the file-save feature of both tools was disabled unless you registered the software. Many people have complained to me that this make the tools "crippleware", and they have refused to even try them out. As of this version, I have added file-save to the default distribution. Now, you can try it out without spending any money. Hopefully, this will encourage more people to use the software and give me feedback on additional features they would like to see. If you had taken a look at it before, but were "turned off" by the disabled file-save feature, please try it out now. If you haven't tried it before, I encourage you to try it out. The programs are available on Windows-95/98, Windows-NT, Linux Intel 6.x and Sun Solaris platforms.
