Age of Exploration From: bobbyhowelljr@aol.com (Bob Howell) Date: Fri, 07 Apr 2000 00:00:00 +0000 This message is in response to a couple of inquiries about a PBEM that I am playing call Age of Exploration. AOE is a multi-player, open-ended, historical game set in the 1490's at present. One month of game time is one turn. The player controls one or more prominent families from that time period which consist of 1-5 members. The more powerful the family the fewer members. The player can trade, raise armies, conduct diplomacy, whatever was done in that historical setting. Turn fees are $3.50 per family as a base, plus ten cents per order issued. On the average my turn fees are $5.00 per family. In the winter months I spend more because travel is difficult, so I stay in one place and train my other characters. I currently run the Podebrad family which is a noble family from Bohemia(Czech), the Durer family who are artists in Nuremburg, the Radziwill family which is a noble family in Lithuania, and the Jagiello family who is my "elite" family. The Jagiello have three members. One is the Grand Duke of Lithuania, another is King of Poland, and the third is both King of Bohemia and Hungary. The sound pretty powerful when you look at the titles but those countries were fairly poor in 1493. There are 1100 families in the database and for a small fee the moderator will research and add any family you present into the game. The entire world is included in the game. There are over 4,000 set up cities in the game at present. This game is at least the third generation of a game called Renaissance. I am aware of Renaissance I and a Renaissance II that were earlier versions. I understand that Ren I is still running since the early to mid eighties. This game is not for the "light" pbm player because the farther along you get the more thought must be put into your turn. This game has been running for about 20 turns so it is still brand new. There are about 40 players in the game at this time. France, Germany, and Italy are pretty well crowded. Eastern Europe could use a few more players. Russia is wide open, Spain has a couple of players in it. The moderator is Constantine Xanthos. His email is 71360.1316@compuserve.com I get no compensation for advertising this game other than hopefully more players to deal with. If you have any other questions or wish to contact me just send an email. Thanks, Bob Referenced By Up
