Game turns equal 1 month of game time. Turns are run every three weeks.

Exploration can be a big part of the game. Right now the only places
"discovered" are located in the Catholic and Orthodox areas. To explore a new
land location you just send a character with a few troops to the edge of the
known map and issue and explore order. The explore order takes 3 turns to be
completed, and if you are successful you can now go to that location just like
any other location.
Naval exploration is a little more difficult, as it should be. It takes 6 turns
to complete and you need some ships, but you get 10,000 units of an appropriate
trade good when you succeed.

Interplayer communications are extensive. While I am writing this I am chatting
with the Pope. :-)
Not much reason to exchange info with a player across Europe unless it is about
faction politics. The trade would be too long to be more profitable than what
you have much closer.
