New: Shattered Lands (free, open-ended, www, human, fantasy, rpg) From: donotreply@pbm.com (PBM List Autoposter) Date: Fri, 18 Apr 2008 19:13:01 +0000 Name: Shattered Lands Costs: Free Frequency: 3-5 times/week URL: http://d20universe.com/Terralith_Web/forum/doForumTopicListing.do?dialogAc tion=populate&forumid=43042 Type: D&D 3.5 Play-by-post Last-Update: 2008Apr10 Keywords: free, open-ended, www, human, fantasy, rpg Description: "Nine city-states cling to life in the Tablelands. Until recently, they were ruled by powerful Sorcerer-Kings, both tyrants and protectors. Now, only five remain; the other cities are cast into chaos and violent strife. Soon, the desert may swallow them, as it has so many times before. The wastes are riddled with the ruins of cities long dead. It is a world where magic drains the very essence of life. Ancient wars have left vast swaths of the planet sterile; even now, druids fight a losing battle to preserve the environment. To practice magic is to tempt death at the hands of the mob, yet the cities themselves are ruled by the most powerful of defilers." - Author unknown. Welcome to Athas. This game is based on the Dark Sun world but experience playing in this world is not necessary. This is a harsh game world to survive in. Weapons are usually made of inferior quality materials (metal is extremely rare) and prone to breakage and wearing armour is a compromise against suffering from heat exhaustion. Since water is a precious commodity and dictates the nature of many beings on Athas I will be keeping track of water capacity and consumption. It may very well dictate your own morals and priorities at some point. If you are looking forward to a challenging game then this is the game for you. As a DM I like to create a "realistic" world. By this I mean that their will never be any magic throwing axes that do 50 points of damage when entering the target's body and another 50 points coming out and returns to your hand. Since there will be none of that type of equipment nor will you be in the planes of hell fighting Diablo and his minions when you're level 5. Although I'm not into killing off player characters I won't prevent it if they do something that seems suicidal. Of course if things get out of hand and a fighting retreat goes badly then I'll do my best to help get them out alive. Of course you can't win 'em all. ;) I'm looking for players who are into the role playing of D&D. One-line posts in a dungeon crawl hack and slash is doable with a group of friends around a table but gets boring quickly on a forum board. I hope to provide you with a detailed and realistic world for you to help develop and interact with. I'm by no means a great writer and I don't expect you to be either. I'm sure I'll make mistakes on the way but we'll sort that out when we get there.
