GNU Robots 1.0D - Programmable robot game From: Jim Hall <jhall1@isd.net> Date: Sat, 15 Jul 2000 00:00:00 +0000 I had announced in another newsgroup the release of GNU Robots 1.0D, and a user recommended I repeat the announcement here. Sorry if this is inappropriate - I am not a regular reader of this group. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- We have released GNU Robots 1.0D! You can download it from the GNU server at http://www.gnu.org/software/robots/robots.html GNU Robots is a game/diversion where you construct a program for a little robot, then set him loose and watch him explore a world on his own. The robot program is constructed in Scheme; a visual programming interface is also being written. The world is filled with baddies that can hurt you, objects that you can bump into, and food that you can eat. The goal of the game is to collect as many prizes as possible before are killed by a baddie or you run out of energy. GNU Robots (including source) will be released under the GNU General Public License. This is an excellent game to set up a programming contest! I had actually started a programming contest at one point to drum up some beta testers for GNU Robots. I think it would be a terrific idea to start up another one! But I won't be doing that on the web site. Sorry. GNU Robots requires GNU Guile to build. You may choose to run GNU Robots under X Windows, curses, or have it write events to a log file (excellent for competitions!) -jh Up
