USS Satori- A Different Kind of Star Trek Game From: stormbird@my-deja.com Date: Thu, 17 Aug 2000 00:00:00 +0000 The Satori is a pbem (just over a year old) based in the Gamma Quadrant two years after the end of the Dominion War. The Satori has been assigned to explore the quadrant, monitor the Dominion, expand frontiers of science, seek out new cultures and allies, and carry the banner of the Federation. The Satori is also the testbed of a new quantum reactor as well as some offensive and defensive technology. Since the Satori was commissioned, it has made contact with dozens of species, saved a Romulan starbase, explored both an artificial world and a pocket universe, fought several new empires, and stopped the Cardassian Union from a Starfleet-inspired civil war. We have several liaison officers from alien governments as well as a reporter, have offered sanctuary to new species, and welcome others. The Satori was inspired by my suffering through a dozen or so rather lame games which either died off or mostly involved my characters running around shooting people (I ran out of ways of saying 'I fired my phaser'). I wanted a game that had exploration instead of conflict at the center of its being. A game that welcomed good writers that wanted to spin complex characters, run their own subplots, and have fun in a friendly and relaxed manner. A game with new species, new empires, and the opportunity to stretch my gaming skills. I have a story arc involving an alien group that has so far stretched across five missions. I also encourage my players to 'think outside the box', to be creative and try to solve problems in innovative ways, even if I end up having to end the mission several weeks early. The site is at http://members.tripod.com/~uss-satori/index.html and there is information about the current mission, the ship and crew, and how to join. I thank you for your interest.
