Re: Charging for rules From: jonmmorris@aol.comnospam (John Morris) Date: Thu, 07 Sep 2000 04:18:10 +0000 Those per-turn fees can add up. Moderators ;-) hope you don't notice the cumulative costs but just the incremental price. Personally, I don't mind turn fees but I don't like action fees where another player can outspend me and use his wallet to outdo me rather than his playing skills. I think I understand why some games are set up that way - aside from being a holdover from the days when everything was manually keypunched by the moderator, it also makes business sense. It's easier to milk a handful of fanatic players for all they're worth than it is to recruit large numbers of players. It reminds of my Dungeon-mastering days when I could get players to fetch me food in exchange for experience points. "Trade imaginary numbers for tangible material goods?! When will they catch on to this scam?!" John Jim Phelps wrote: >I have been lurking in the NG off and on for some time, but now feel the need to comment. >I have played several PBM strategy games. I can honestly say I have enjoyed all of them. I have never regretted paying for the rulebook, the maps, or even a setup fee. What I didn't like was the turn-by-turn fees. After spending the money to just play, which in some cases was a fair amount of cash, and postage for 2-3 turns a month, an additional $2-$10 depending on the game became too costly. >Later >jim_phelps@theglobe.com *** (AD) Gunboat Empires has moved from PBM to PBeM http://www.gunboatempires.com *** Referenced By Up
