I want one which I can play a turn in 10 to 30 minutes during my lunch hour, but will have a winner within 2 to 3 months. It should have a solo play component and a real-time option would be nice. I know of a few which meet the limited requirements above, but they both have significant flaws. Empire Deluxe games are too dependent on the luck of initial position for random generated maps, and there are only so many scenarios available. Plus, if it you do get a balanced start, it takes a year to finish. Stars! gets to where it takes over an hour per turn. This currently meets my needs for games I host because I can reduce the turn generation as the game takes longer. Allied General only works for 2 people and it crashed after 10 turns anyway. Civnet only works real-time and they dropped the advertised e-mail part of Civ 2 Multiplayer. Advanced Civilization looks like a good possibility, but it is no longer available and it does not work on NT. Galaxy and VGAPlanets look like they would be similar to Stars. Am I right?
