[Press Release] - MMJ Enterprises and Galactic Empires From: Mark Wardell <PNMarkW2@aol.com> Date: Tue, 19 Sep 2000 04:04:54 +0000 MMJ Enterprises acquires the PBM/PBeM Game Galactic Empires Galactic Empires, one of the longest running PBM games in operation, has been acquired by MMJ Enterprises from Pierce Enterprises in a sale concluded 1 September 2000. Galactic Empires originally started operations in September 1979 as an endless, fast-paced, empire building, science fiction game. In 1996 MMJ Enterprises licensed the rights to run Galactic Empires and assumed all of the daily operations for the game while Pierce Enterprises retained ownership of the game. David Pierce of Pierce Enterprises has this to say about the recent sale "Good luck with the game, and I hope you can keep it going FOREVER as it was intended". Mark Wardell, owner of MMJ Enterprises, started as a player in Galactic Empires in 1981 and has played in the game ever since. When asked about the future of Galactic Empires Mark replied "The future looks good. Galactic Empires was started as a fast-paced, fun, endless game and we are making every effort to maintain that spirit. While we have been running the game we have also been working hard to update the rules and rewrite the program to expand the options available to players, and remove some of the limitations imposed by the old program. The third edition rulebook is very nearly complete, and playtesting the new program and rules should resume shortly. All through this process the underling concern has been to maintain the classic feel of the game, and I've had a great group of playtesters who have helped me every step of the way." When asked about other plans for MMJ Enterprises Mark said "Our number one priority is to complete the revision of Galactic Empires. Beyond that we have a number of other projects waiting for our attention including some new game designs, a PBM newsletter, and perhaps other redesign efforts much like what has taken place with Galactic Empires. The 80's saw a number of truly fun PBM games, many of which seem to have been lost over the years, and I'm hunting for a couple of them".
