I've been playing utopia for 4 ages now, it's about 2 months to and
age(game)  the current game ends at the end of this week, so I'd sign-up
and play around now, and make your mistakes while it doesn't really
matter ;-)

Best advice I can give - Read the guide, and talk to the experienced
guys in your kingdom.  In most kingdoms, once the established players
realise you want to play seriously you will get a lot of help and advice
from them.
