Players create characters based upon the races and species found in the Star Trek Universe. These characters, after training at the Starfleet Academy, are assigned to a Duty Station on a Starship or Starbase. Some example Duty Stations are: Chief Engineer, First Officer, Tactical/Security Chief and Counselor. All members of the FGN interact with each other and follow a general plot line, throwing in their own input and ideas in the form of Posts. A Post describes the Actions of the Player Character in the game, all the posts for a particular Starship/Starbase are compiled each day by the Commanding Officer of that Starship/Starbase and are then distibuted via E-Mail to all crew members. Depending upon the content of the compiled posts and the actions of other characters, the player then writes another post in reply and then so on until the current mission is complete. Then another mission begins..... All players start with the rank of Cadet and upon completion of a Training Scenario at the Starfleet Academy are then promoted to Ensign (Jg). Further promotions, up to and including the rank of Admiral are dependent upon the frequency and quality of the posts written by the player. Every time a player is promoted, his/her character is given more in game responsibilities, for example, a player whose character has been promoted to the Rank of Captain, will be given his/her own Starship/Starbase to run, along with all the other players and responsibilites that comes with the command. All players must complete an Academy Training Scenario before being posted to a Live Duty Station. This is to ensure that all players are familiar with the correct posting format, plotlines and other game rules and elements. You can spend anything from 1 day to 1 month in the Academy, depending on the frequency and quality of your posts. If what you have read interests you and you would like to join the FGN, then please go to the Joining the FGN screen and Sign Up for FGN. The future awaits your decision.
