[AD] 6 more players needed for Gunboat Empires From: jonmmorris@aol.comnospam (John Morris) Date: Tue, 06 Mar 2001 04:31:03 +0000 I could use another six players to fill out the roster for a special**, virtually free** game of Gunboat Empires starting soon. If you are interested, please contact me (moderator@gunboatempires.com) or enroll from the website www.gunboatempires.com On the slight possibility <g> that you don't already know about Gunboat Empires, here's a brief description: Gunboat Empires (GE) is a closed-ended, 28-player, economics, historic, strategic level wargame set in a world similar to our WW1 - WW2 eras. Each player runs a great-power country with a couple of colonies. As your country's leader, you will direct its economy, command the military, control the media, conduct diplomacy, build your colonies, develop new technologies, suppress the freedom of minor nations, and (probably) go toe-to-toe with your fellow great powers. You also get to pick your country and customize it before the game starts. Quick features: - web-based turn-submission forms with plain-english commands and online validation! - newsletters for each turn with world news and player-submitted propaganda - turn-rankings, statistics, regional information posted each turn - online map connected to real-time database so you can see who owns what, where, etc. (though a printed 4' x 2' map is available) - realistic commodity markets - weekly turns If you like games such as Axis & Allies, Grand Imperialism, and Age of Rennaissance, you will love Gunboat Empires. It has a similar region based map though it has just a little more depth. GE is a good balance of tight rules, clean presentation, responsible moderation, and fun. I have been blessed throughout the years with a good bunch of players and I invite you to join! The rules, maps, tips, setups, etc. are online and easily downloadable. ** This Special game is designed especially for new players to get their feet wet and see what Gunboat Empires is all about - it runs 8 turns but it is otherwise the same as a full-length game (though no plaques or awards). ** Virtually free. Here's the deal - you send me $10 to play. If you submit all 8 turns, I'll either refund your $10 or credit you $25 towards the next game, scheduled to start immediately following this game. (you can use paypal or send a check). I've got 22 players waiting for a handful more to join and then we can start. I hope you can help us out! -- John Morris (moderator@gunboatempires.com) PS: (Misc. details for Carol) Yes, as with most multi-player games, diplomacy is very important - if you don't talk to anyone, your neighbors will suspect the worst of you and act accordingly though maybe not such a big deal with an 8-turn game. I started PbM as a Diplomacy player (game 1976Y) and I have moderated GE games since 1988. No games have failed to run to conclusion so I've never had to deal with abandoned game policies. http://www.GunboatEmpires.com Up
